Jaisalmer was merged with
the state of Rajasthan in 1949 and given the status of a district. It bends
towards the desert of Kutch and is surrounded by an international border
extending for 471 km.
Jaisalmer is strategically located on the India-Pakistan border in western Rajasthan. It has a total area of 5.1 km and an average elevation of 229 m (751 ft.). The maximum temperature in summer is around 41.6 °C while the minimum temperature is 25 °C. The maximum temperature in winter is 23.6 °C while the minimum temperature is 7.9 °C. The average rainfall is 150 mm.

October to March is the best time to visit Jaisalmer as the weather remains pleasant during this time.
